Leakage of toxic bile acids from the ductular reactions

The video shows ductular reaction (DR) in the pericentral compartment of the liver lobule following chronic CCl4 intoxication (1 g/kg, twice a week for 9 months). After tail vein administration, CLF drains into the DR. However, these novel ducts (arrows) are leaky causing regurgitation of the toxic bile into the surrounding liver parenchyma, particularly after administration of a second bolus of CLF (minute 182).
